The Illuminating Engineering Society of China bid to host the 31st International Commission on Illumination

On September 17th, Zhang Chonghe, the President of the China Light Industry Federation, attended the 30th session of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). During the meeting, the Illuminating Engineering Society of China presented a statement requesting to host the 31st session of the CIE in Nanjing, China, in 2027. They responded to queries from the attending commissioners. Through an anonymous voting process, the application from the Chinese National Lighting Committee was accepted, and it was agreed to hold the 31st session of the International Commission on Illumination in Nanjing, China, in July 2027. The successful bid for the 31st CIE session will further facilitate exchanges and cooperation between China and the global lighting technology community, contributing to the advancement of the lighting industry in China. It will also enhance the image and influence of the Illuminating Engineering Society of China within international organizations.

Chairman Liu Zhenglei of the Illuminating Engineering Society of China, Vice Chairman Haoluo Xi, Chairman Zang Feng of Nanjing City Urban Lighting Construction and Operation Group Co., Ltd., as well as Guo Fei, the Design Director of Efei Environmental Planning and Design (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., attended the CIE Executive Committee Plenary Meeting as representatives from China.

The bidding process received guidance from the China Association for Science and Technology and the China Light Industry Federation, support from Nanjing City Urban Lighting Construction and Operation Group Co., Ltd., and the care and encouragement of all directors, members, and numerous lighting technology professionals of the Illuminating Engineering Society of China.

During the CIE Executive Committee Plenary Meeting, the CIE President read out the CIE Code of Ethics, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the challenges facing the lighting field, and called for all CIE members to strengthen their efforts in promoting the development of lighting science and technology. The International Commission on Illumination presented Outstanding Contribution Awards to experts and scholars representing various national committees. The nominees from the Illuminating Engineering Society of China, including Zhang Baozhou, Tang Guoqing, Xu Haisong, Zang Feng, Dang Rui, Liu Qiang, Luo Yong, and Wang Guangxu, were honored with the CIE Outstanding Contribution Award.

Established in 1913, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and is one of the three major international standardization organizations alongside the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Its mission is to provide a platform for research, exchange, and cooperation in the field of lighting among its members, to establish basic standards and measurement procedures in the light and lighting field, to provide guidance on principles and procedures for developing international and national standards in the light and lighting field, to develop and publish scientific and technical standards, technical reports, and other relevant publications in the light and lighting field, and to maintain contact and technical cooperation with other international standardization organizations on issues related to light and lighting. The organizational structure of the CIE includes the Executive Committee, the Board of Directors, the Central Bureau (Secretariat), and 6 technical divisions for conducting work. The Executive Committee is the highest governing body of the CIE, composed of the chairpersons of 36 national (or regional) committees. The CIE holds an International Commission on Illumination Congress every four years in member countries and concurrently hosts large-scale academic conferences and international lighting technology exhibitions.
